The Nigerian Immigration Service has placed sponsors of the recent #EndBadGovernance protest based in the diaspora under surveillance, according to Comptroller General Kemi Nandap.
At a press conference on Tuesday, Nandap announced that the identified individuals will be arrested upon their return to Nigeria.
The NIS has heightened border security and surveillance, deploying additional officers at entry points to prevent foreign intervention, according to Nairametrics
The move follows a meeting between President Bola Tinubu and security chiefs to address the recent violence during nationwide protests.
The Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, confirmed that the police have also identified some sponsors, while the Department of State Services is tracking funding sources in collaboration with the Nigerian Financial Intelligence Unit.
The security agencies are working together to address the situation and identify those behind the protest’s funding.
Nandap stated, “We have identified some diaspora sponsors; they are on our watch list. We will be notified of any attempt they make to enter the country, and they will be picked up and handed to the appropriate authority.”
Inspector-General of Police, Mr. Kayode Egbetokun, confirmed that the police had also identified some sponsors but did not disclose further details. “Several accounts linked to these individuals have been blocked. Many of them reside abroad,” Egbetokun stated.
