Governor Francis Nwifuru of Ebonyi State has appealed to the residents of the state, to forgive the governorship candidates of the Peoples Democratic Party, Ifeanyi Chukwuma Odii and that of the All Progressives Grand Alliance, Benard Odoh, for going the extra mile, to challenge his victory at the polls.
Addressing the residents of the state at the new Government House in Abakaliki, Nwifiru said Odii and Odoh did not know what they were doing, begging the residents to forget the actions they took against him.
It would be recalled that the Ebonyi Governor won the appeal filed against him, at the Supreme Court on Friday
However, Nwifiru commended the Supreme Court of Nigeria for affirming his victory in the March 18, 2023, Governorship election in the state.
He further expressed gratitude to God for the judiciary’s bold stance in defending the wishes of citizens through the ballots in the last election.
While maintaining that Odii and Odoh didn’t know what they were doing, Nwifuru assured the citizens of his commitment to job creation, industrialising the state and moving the state from consumption to manufacturing.
“Sincerely, I tender an apology on behalf of them (Odii and Odoh) and ask for their forgiveness. We should forgive them because they don’t know what they’re doing, and I’m sure we are going to forgive them.
“The supreme court has served Ebonyians justice and I’m sincerely grateful to them. The image of this country has been redeemed by the Supreme Court of Nigeria. The landmark judgement given last Friday has redeemed the image of this country,” he said.
