In a bid to maximize the potential of the newly rehabilitated Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, Ebonyi State is poised to establish its own airline.
The state government has announced plans to procure four aircraft to kickstart the venture.
According to Commissioner for Aviation and Transport Technology, Ngozi Obichukwu, investors have expressed interest in adding three more aircraft to the fleet.
The state aims to operate 60-seater planes and cargo flights, shunning leasing options, according to CH-Aviation.
The Chuba Okadigbo International Airport, slated for August operations, has undergone a N20 billion renovation.
Ebonyi State envisions the airport as a pivotal economic hub for the Southeast region, boosting regional development through enhanced aviation infrastructure.
With the state government committed to realizing this vision, the airline is expected to play a vital role in fostering economic growth and connectivity in the region.
“We will soon start floating our aircraft. When flight operations start at the airport, we have investors ready to give us an extra three planes. We have already entered into agreements with them, and very soon it will start happening,” she claimed.
