The ECOWAS Court of Justice has ordered the immediate release of deposed Niger president Mohamed Bazoum.
Premium Politics reported that Bazoum has been held since a July 26 coup, by the Niger Junta.
The court on Friday ruled for his “immediate and unconditional release” and mandated Bazoum’s reinstatement, as stated by the judge during the trial held in Nigeria’s capital, Abuja.
Niger presently faces suspension from the Economic Community of West African States.
Historically, other member states have disregarded judgments issued by the ECOWAS court in the past.
“It is Mohamed Bazoum who represents the state of Niger… he remains president of the republic,” the court ruling said.
“There are constitutional rights that have been violated.”
