Lagos State Governor, Babajide Sanwo-Olu has congratulated President Bola Tinubu on his emergence as the new chairman of the Economy Community of West African States.
In a statement signed by Tinubu’s Chief Press Secretary Gboyega Akosile and dated 10 July 2023, Sanwo-Olu hailed the summit at the 63rd Ordinary Session on Sunday in Bissau, Guinea-Bissau, as a major vote of confidence in Nigeria’s position as the continent’s preeminent power in the West African sub-region.
He went on to say that President Tinubu’s colleagues’ faith in him as the coalition’s leader would be rewarded by fruitful cooperation and workable answers to the problems of sluggish economic expansion, unsustainable development, and inadequate cross-border security.
Sanwo-Olu said, “On behalf of the people of Lagos State, I want to congratulate our leader, mentor, and pathfinder, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on this remarkable achievement as the Chairman of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
“We have absolute confidence that you will perform exceptionally well in your new role as the Head of the important regional organisation and we are happy to be associated with you.”
