The 2023 Labour Party’s presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged INEC and security agencies to ensure a free, fair, and credible Edo governorship election on September 21.
At the grand finale rally for LP’s candidate in the Edo Governorship election in Benin, Olumide Akpata, Obi emphasized that the people of Edo would resist any attempts to rig the election.
He expressed confidence in the LP’s ability to deliver the change Edo needs, benefiting the masses.
“If elected, the Labour Party’s candidate will address federal roads connected to the state without waiting for the federal government to act,”
Obi assured. He criticized state governors who often defer responsibilities to the Federal Government at the expense of their citizens, promising that Olumide Akpata would not follow that path.
Obi called on Edo residents to vote for Akpata and his running mate, Yusuf Kadiri, in large numbers on September 21. Prof. Datti Baba-Ahmed, Obi’s running mate in the 2023 presidential election, encouraged LP supporters to leverage their numerical strength to secure victory. He stressed that power belongs to the people and urged supporters to stand firm, vote, and defend their votes.
Senator Neda Imasuen, representing Edo South Senatorial District, advised party supporters to build on previous successes and replicate them on September 21. Olumide Akpata rallied his supporters to use their votes to oust the People’s Democratic Party from Edo’s government house.
The upcoming election has generated significant interest, with INEC working to ensure a smooth process.
The commission has adopted the Election Violence Mitigation and Advocacy Tool to assess and reduce potential election-related violence. With over 150,000 new voters registered, the election is expected to be highly contested.
