The Etsako Youth Movement in Edo State has demanded the arrest of Deputy Governor Philip Shaibu, accusing him of incompetence, disloyalty, and attempts to undermine his former boss, Governor Godwin Obaseki.
The group’s leader, Johnson Umoru, on Thursday, described Shaibu’s claims to expose the government as “laughable” and “desperate.”
He highlighted Shaibu’s history of betrayal and misconduct, including his failed governorship ambition and numerous court cases, according yo Politics Nigeria.
EYM called for an investigation into Shaibu’s financial dealings, particularly the funds used for his governorship campaign and court cases.
They also accused Shaibu of fanning violence, citing the recent Airport Road incident where a police inspector was killed.
The group demanded Shaibu’s immediate arrest and prosecution for his alleged acts of violence and other offenses.
“It is laughable that Philip Shaibu, a man who has consistently shown his incompetence and disloyalty, would now claim he has something to expose about Governor Obaseki.
“If there is anyone who needs to be exposed, it is Shaibu. His actions have demonstrated a clear lack of loyalty and a dangerous ambition to usurp the powers of his former boss,” Umoru stated.
“We demand a probe into how Philip Shaibu obtained the funds to finance his ill-fated governorship campaign. The people of Edo State deserve to know the source of these funds, especially given his track record of questionable behaviour.
“Shaibu has shown a knack for violence, and this was evident in the recent Airport Road incident where a police officer was killed. This is unacceptable, and we call for his immediate arrest and prosecution for this and other acts of violence he has been associated with,” Umoru declared.
