A prominent member of the Peoples Democratic Party and the South-South representative in the party’s Board of Trustees, Hon. Charles Idahosa, has officially resigned from the party.
While he cited his decision to seek new paths and opportunities beyond the party as the reason for his resignation, it is widely known that he had fallen out with Governor Godwin Obaseki.
Idahosa publicly expressed his reservations about the governor’s leadership style, accusing him of abandoning those who had worked for his re-election in 2020.
Idahosa was one of the first to publicly oppose the disqualification of Obaseki by the All Progressives Congress, which led to his fallout with the former governor of the state and the then National Chairman of the APC, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole.
Having served as a Political Adviser to Oshiomhole throughout his eight years as governor, Idahosa left the APC with Governor Obaseki to join the PDP.
In a letter addressed to his Ward 1 in Ehor, Uhunmwode Local Government Chairman, and copied to the Chairman of the PDP Board of Trustees, the South-South National Vice Chairman, the Edo State PDP Chairman, and the PDP Chairman of Uhunmwode Local Government area, dated April 29th, 2024, Idahosa stated:
“I trust this letter finds you well. I am reaching out to formally announce my decision to resign from both the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and my role as a member of the Board of Trustees (BoT). As a representative of the South-South Nigerian region, this decision comes after considerable contemplation and reflection on my personal and political journey.
“Throughout my tenure within the Peoples Democratic Party, I have been privileged to contribute to its vision and mission. However, after careful consideration, I believe it is time for me to pursue new paths and opportunities beyond the party’s confines.
“I wish to express my sincere gratitude to the PDP community for their unwavering support and camaraderie during my time of service.
“I remain committed to upholding the values and principles that have guided my political engagement thus far. I look forward to new avenues of growth and contribution, and I extend my best wishes to the Peoples Democratic Party as it continues its important work.”
