The Kano State Police Command has apprehended Usman Sagiru, a 20-year-old man, in connection with the alleged killing of a vigilante member, Surajo Rabiu, and an attack on the entourage of the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
The tragic incident also left another vigilante member, Aminu Suleman, injured. Suleman is currently receiving medical attention at the Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital in Kano.
Confirming the incident, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Kano State Command, SP Abdullahi Haruna, disclosed that the attack took place while local guards were providing security for Emir Sanusi II’s entourage, who were returning from the Eid prayer ground.
SP Haruna stated, “While dispersing from the Eid praying ground, Usman Sagiru and others, now at large, allegedly stabbed Surajo Rabiu, a vigilante member from Sabon Titi Jaba Quarters, who later died from his injuries. Another vigilante member, Aminu Suleman from Kofar Mata Quarters, sustained injuries and is receiving treatment at Murtala Mohammed Specialist Hospital, Kano.”
The PPRO added that investigations have commenced to uncover the circumstances surrounding the attack. As part of the ongoing inquiry, the Shamakin Kano, Alhaji Wada Isyaku, has been invited for questioning.
SP Haruna emphasized that the police remain resolute in maintaining public order, reiterating that the ban on all forms of Durbar remains in force within the state.
He warned, “All forms of thuggery (Daba) will not be tolerated. Anyone involved in acts likely to cause a breach of peace or breakdown of law and order will be arrested and prosecuted.”
The police command called on residents to remain calm and support the efforts of law enforcement in sustaining peace and security across Kano State.
