The New Nigeria Peoples Party has disowned a letter allegedly written to the Senate accusing the Federal Government of laying siege on Kano State.
The party’s national chairman, Dr. Agbo Major, clarified that the letter was not authorized by the party’s leadership.
The letter in question, dated June 24, was purportedly written by the party’s former national chairman, Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, and addressed to Senate President Godswill Akpabio, according to Daily Post.
However, the NNPP has distanced itself from the letter, stating that it was not mandated by the party’s leadership.
The party’s founder, Boniface Aniebonam, and national secretary, Oginni Sunday, also dissociated themselves from the letter.
The NNPP emphasized that the Kano Emirate leadership crisis is an internal matter that should be resolved by Kano State indigenes under their culture and tradition, without political party interference.
The party reaffirmed its commitment to peace, development, and the well-being of Nigerians.
In a statement on Friday by the NNPP National Chairman, Dr Agbo Major, the party clarified that the letter was without the mandate and authorisation of the leadership of the NNPP.
”Boniface Aniebonam is the founder of the NNPP, holder of the registration certificate of the party, chairman, board of trustees and a life member of the board.
“While Agbo Major is the national chairman and Mr Oginni Sunday is the national secretary.
“The NNPP stand remains that the Kano Emirate leadership crisis is an internal matter of Kano state indigenes under culture and tradition.
“Political party involvement under the circumstances is wrong. The principle of our party remains focused on the peace of the society, development and well-being of the greater numbers of Nigerians”, he said.
