The Executive Chairman of Igbo Etiti Local Government Area in Enugu State, Dr. Eric Ogbonna Odo, has appointed two Senior Special Assistants focusing on specific agricultural produce. The appointees will provide advisory services on garden egg, pepper, and yam to the local government.
Nwodo Ugonna was appointed as Senior Special Assistant on Garden Egg and Pepper, while Ezeugwu Ogbonna was appointed as Senior Special Assistant on Yam and Pepper.
Appointment letters signed by the chairman have since gone viral on the internet . Both letters directed the appointees to report to the office of the Executive Chairman at Ogbede for further briefing and deployment.
Nwodo’s appointment letter stated: “I am pleased to inform you that the executive chairman Igbo Etiti LGA has approved your appointment as SENIOR SPECIAL ASSISTANT to the Local Government chairman on AGRICULTURE (GARDEN EGG & PEPPER).”
Similarly, Ezeugwu’s letter read: “I am pleased to inform you that the executive chairman Igbo Etiti LGA has approved your appointment as SENIOR SPECIAL ASSISTANT to the Local Government chairman on AGRICULTURE (YAM & PEPPER).”
The letters clarified that the appointments are temporary and not part of the civil service, stating that they are held at the discretion of the Executive Chairman.
The announcements have sparked mixed reactions on social media, with some questioning the need for such specific roles in local government, while others view the appointments as an innovative focus on agricultural development.
The appointees are expected to assist in formulating strategies to enhance agricultural productivity in the region, particularly in the cultivation of garden egg, pepper, and yam—crops that are staples in the local economy.
