The State Executive Committee of the Peoples Democratic Party in Enugu State held a meeting on Friday, where they adopted dates for the party’s congresses and Local Government primaries.
The meeting, presided over by state Chairman, Hon. Augustine Nnamani, adopted the following dates: Saturday, July 27, 2024, for ward congresses to elect executives in the 260 wards; Saturday, August 10, for local government congresses; Saturday, August 31, for state congress.
These dates were earlier announced by the national leadership of the party.
Additionally, ahead of the council election scheduled for October 5, 2024, the SEC adopted: August 7, for chairmanship primaries; August 11, for councillorship primaries.
The motion to adopt these dates was moved by the Speaker of the Enugu State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Uchenna Ugwu, and seconded by the Zonal Chairman of the party for Enugu West, Okey Ozoani.
Earlier on Friday, Governor Peter Mbah, leader of the PDP in Enugu State, met with party stakeholders and leaders from the three senatorial districts. He urged party faithful to ensure peaceful congresses and charged party leaders to be guided by transparency, equity, justice, and fairness.
The ward congresses began on Saturday, with a panel from Abuja received by the state chairman, Hon. Nnamani. The chairman of the five-man PDP Ward Congresses Electoral Committee, Toni Iyoha, assured party faithful of a free, fair, and credible process.
