A sombre atmosphere enveloped Kamrum, Zango Kataf Local Government Area of Kaduna State, on Friday as mourners gathered to pay their final respects to the late George Stephen Shekari, who passed away at the age of 52.
George was the first son of the late former Deputy Governor of Kaduna State, Stephen Shekari. His passing has left a deep void in the hearts of his family, friends, and associates.
During the funeral service at ECWA Church, Kamrum, former Governor Ahmed Mohammed Makarfi, represented by a former Minister of Aviation and immediate past Chairman of the People’s Democratic Party in Kaduna State, Mr. Felix Hassan Hyat, described the deceased as a brilliant individual whose life was tragically cut short at a time when his contributions were most needed.
Encouraging the bereaved family to find solace in their faith, Makarfi’s representative said, “Take comfort in the belief that he now rests at Jesus’ feet.”
Speaking on behalf of the family, Rijo Shekari, a cousin of the deceased and a Senior Legislative Aide in the Office of the Deputy President of the Senate, expressed profound gratitude to all who stood by them in their time of grief.
He called for continued prayers and support for the bereaved family, particularly for the wife and children of the late Shekari, urging the church and the community to uphold them in faith and solidarity.
The congregation was deeply moved by a powerful sermon delivered by Rev. Solomon Guruza Ubasi, titled “Longing for the Home of Righteousness.”
Taking his text from Job 19:25-27, Rev. Guruza reminded the congregation of the believer’s ultimate hope—eternal life with God. He described the home of righteousness as a place of peace, joy, and reunion with the Lord, urging everyone to live in readiness.
“This world is not our final home,” he said. “No matter the trials we face, we must keep our eyes on eternity, just as Job did.”
While addressing the grieving family, Rev. John encouraged them to find comfort in the faith and legacy of the deceased, assuring them that for the righteous, death is not the end but a transition to a glorious home with God.
The service was marked by solemn tributes from family and friends, reflecting on the life and impact of George Stephen Shekari. As his body was laid to rest, Rev. Guruza’s words remained fresh in the hearts of all present: “In Christ, farewells are never final.”
