The New Nigeria People’s Party Gombe State governorship candidate in the 2023 election, Khamisu Mailantarki, has officially resigned from the party.
Mailantarki, who came third in the election, tendered his resignation letter to his ward chairman at Herwagana ward, effective Wednesday, July 10, 2024.
In the letter, he expressed his gratitude to the NNPP for the opportunity to contest for the governorship seat, stating that the experience prepared him for future challenges.
Although Mailantarki’s next political move is unclear, his resignation marks a significant development in Gombe State’s political landscape, according to Nigerian Tribune.
The 2023 governorship election saw incumbent Governor Inuwa Yahaya of the All Progressives Congress emerge victorious, with Muhammed Barde of the People’s Democratic Party coming in second.
He wrote, “I am writing to inform you of my intention to resign from my position as a member of the New Nigeria People’s Party. This will be effective from Wednesday 10th July, 2024. Please accept my resignation letter and be notified from the date stated above.
“I deeply express my appreciation to all the executive members as well as others who saw me through my entire journey in the 2023 elections while contesting for the office of the Governor in Gombe State under the platform of the NNPP.”
