A former majority leader of the Oyo State House of Assembly, Kehinde Subair, has passed away at the age of 60.
Subair, a prominent chieftain of the All Progressives Congress, died in the United Kingdom shortly after breaking his Ramadan fast.
The death was confirmed by the Publicity Secretary of the APC in Oyo State, Wale Sadare, who spoke to Punch in Ibadan, the state capital. Sadare confirmed the news, although he refrained from commenting further at the time due to being in a studio.
Sadare, said, “Yes, he is dead, confirmed. But I cannot talk too much now because I am currently in a studio.”
A fellow APC chieftain in the state, who chose to remain anonymous, shared that Subair, who served as a member of the Oyo State House of Assembly for two terms from 2011 to 2019, passed away just days before his 60th birthday. The source expressed that Subair would be greatly missed by the party.
The source said, “Subair died in the UK, seven days to his 60th birthday. He will surely be missed by the party.”
Before his untimely passing, Subair held several positions within the APC, contributing to the party’s activities and growth.
Governor Seyi Makinde to Involve Oyo Citizens in Selection of Successor
In other news, Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, has stated that the people of the state will play a crucial role in determining his successor in the upcoming 2027 elections. Makinde made the announcement in a statement released on Saturday, March 8, 2025, which was made available to the media by his Special Adviser on Media, Dr. Sulaimon Olanrewaju.
The governor emphasized that Oyo residents would have the opportunity to shape the state’s future by selecting his successor if they desire continuity in the state’s development. He further revealed that he would announce the individual he intends to endorse for the governorship position in 2026, with the aim of ensuring the ongoing sustainable development and transformation of the state.
