The Federal Government has emphasized the benefits of transitioning from petrol-driven vehicles to compressed natural gas (CNG)-powered vehicles, citing reduced transportation costs and a positive impact on the economy.
Transport Minister Said Alkali made this statement in Abuja on Tuesday, highlighting the potential of CNG-powered vehicles to revolutionize the Nigerian economy.
Alkali noted that the widespread adoption of CNG-powered vehicles would conserve resources, address public transportation challenges, and provide safer and more affordable energy in the transportation sector, according to Peoples Gazette.
This, in turn, is expected to lead to lower costs for goods and services.
The Minister revealed that the government, under President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, aims to establish CNG outlets nationwide, building on the existing infrastructure in Abuja.
This initiative aligns with the government’s efforts to promote more sustainable and cost-effective energy solutions in the transportation sector.
“Already, we have a lot of CNG outlets in Abuja. It is the desire of President Bola Tinubu to provide this CNG outlets in the entire country,” he said.
The minister added that with CNG, the government was redoubling efforts at providing safer and cheaper energy in the transportation sector, which should bring down the cost of goods and services.
