The Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, has unveiled the Federal Government’s plan to implement the National Single Window, a system aimed at reducing the cost of doing business at Nigerian ports.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Nigerian Ports Authority explained that the NSW system works by streamlining operations, improving transparency, and minimizing delays. The initiative is designed to drive cost savings while also enhancing overall trade facilitation.
The NPA further emphasized that the cumulative benefits of the system, including reduced costs, greater efficiency, and increased transparency, will significantly contribute to the ease of doing business in Nigeria.
Oyetola also highlighted the government’s commitment to improving multimodal connectivity as part of efforts to boost trade and reduce transportation costs. He noted that the implementation of the NSW, alongside the Port Community System, represents a critical step in modernizing trade processes and optimizing the use of the country’s marine resources.
Dr. Abu Dantsoho, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Ports Authority, also weighed in on the matter, stating that the NSW system connects all stakeholders in foreign trade, allowing them to perform trade procedures on a unified platform. This platform provides a comprehensive online environment for government agencies, importers, exporters, commercial banks, carriers, customs, and other relevant parties to conduct trade operations.
Dantsoho further explained that the Single Window operation is a global best practice for the electronic exchange of information related to international cargo movements across sea, air, and land transport modes. He emphasized that the move to implement the NSW in Nigeria will enhance the competitiveness of Nigerian ports and enable the country to maximize the benefits of global trade under the leadership of President Bola Tinubu.
He said, “This concrete move by His Excellency, President Bola Tinubu to implement the NSW in Nigeria is pivotal to deepening the competitiveness of our Ports and position the good people of Nigeria to reap greater benefits from global trade.”
