The Federal Government has begun a probe to unravel the cause of Tuesday’s explosion in Ibadan, the Oyo state capital.
Disclosing this in Abuja on Wednesday, the Minister of Solid Minerals and Development, Dr Dele Alake, said he had ordered Mine Officers of the ministry to investigate the Tuesday night explosion in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The minister’s order came, following the reports that the explosion was allegedly traceable to the denotation of explosive devices stored by illegal miners.
“I have directed the ministry’s mine officers who are already on site in Ibadan to join the ongoing investigations to find out the immediate and remote causes of the explosion.
“We have ordered a detailed investigation and our officers will work and collaborate with the Oyo State government to know the actual cause,” Alake said.
The minister however commiserated with Makinde and the people of Oyo State, over the tragic incident.
Meanwhile, Governor, Seyi Makinde of Oyo State, affirmed that no fewer than two people were reported dead and 77 others injured in the blast.
Similarly, no fewer than 58 buildings were reported to have been damaged by the explosion.
The tragic incident which happened on Tuesday night, threw the residents in panic and also left many people misplaced and homeless.
