The Federal Government has promised to pay the outstanding 36-month salary arrears owed to over 1,800 teachers of Unity Colleges.
Education Minister, Prof. Tahir Mamman, made the pledge at an EdTech Conference in Abuja, stating that the affected teachers’ files are with the Ministry of Finance and will be paid soon.
The teachers, recruited in 2018, 2019, and 2020, were not paid due to logistic challenges with the Integrated Payroll and Personnel Information System and the failure to transmit their files to the Budget Office for vetting, according to Daily Nigerian
The Minister assured that the paperwork is complete, and payment will be made once the necessary processes are finalized.
Although he couldn’t provide an exact timeline, he expressed hope that the teachers will receive their salaries soon.
“The issue of the teachers’ salary is already with the Budget Office and the Ministry of Finance. So hopefully, they will be paid.
“I can’t tell exactly when their money will be paid. We don’t pay in the Ministry of Education. But we have done the paper work. It is already in Finance. Hopefully, very soon, they will get their money,” he said.
