In its bid for quality and better service delivery, the Federal Government has expressed determination to reposition the rail transport sector.
A statement issued by the Director of Press and Public Relations, Henshaw Ogubike on Tuesday, revealed that the Minister of Transportation, Saidu Alkali, made the disclosure recently, during his unscheduled visit to the Idu Train Station, Abuja.
It was disclosed that the commitment came in line with President Bola Tinibu’s desire to make the train transport safe, accessible and affordable to all Nigerians.
However, Alkali in his speech on the plans to rebuild the railway services, said he would strengthen collaboration with the Military high command, to beef up security along all train routes in the country.
While speaking on the issue of the poor condition of train coaches, conveniences, lifts and escalators, the Minister assured that they would be rectified and operational as soon as possible.
The minister however commended the security operatives, for providing security, noting that all unpaid allowances will be cleared without delay, adding that henceforth, they will be paid as at when due.
He however urged Nigerians to continue patronizing rail transport, confirming that it remains the best means of transportation, noting that concerted efforts are being made, to run it in line with global best practices.
