The Presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party in the February 25 presidential election in Nigeria, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar expressed his appreciation to the people of Adamawa State for resisting who he described as ” coupists and enemies of democracy.”
Atiku stated this in his congratulatory message, through his Twitter handle, to the Governor of Adamawa State, Ahmadu Fintiri, over his victory at the just concluded governorship election in the state, which the controversial result was finally declared on Tuesday, April 18, 2023, by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
“Thank you to the people of Adamawa and men and women of goodwill for staying the course in resisting coupists and enemies of democracy from having their way,” he said.
According to him, the lesson from the Adamawa election and the cloud it generated “is the need for Nigerians to be vigilant and never give in to anti-democratic forces whose objective is to snatch, run with and undermine the mandate of the people as freely expressed in their votes.
“By the way, it is not yet Uhuru as we still have one more major mandate to reclaim, and together as ONE, we shall accomplish the task for the good of our country and its people,” he added.
Governor Fintiri was declared the winner of the Adamawa governorship election yesterday, after all the controversial events that becloud the conduct and process of the election, which the state Residential Electoral Commissioner, Barr Hudu Yunusa Ari had earlier declared the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, Aishatu Binani, as the winner, in an unlawful manner, on Sunday.
However, the action of Barr Ari led to the swift action of the Independent National Electoral Commission, to stop the collation of the election results, inviting the REC to the national headquarters of the commission in Abuja, which led to the investigation and suspension of Mr. Ari.
