The Conference of Professionals in the Peoples Democratic Party has advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to abandon any thoughts of retaining the Presidency beyond May 29, 2027.
This comes in response to the president’s recent remarks suggesting that he might dismiss the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, if the All Progressives Congress loses the capital city to the PDP in the upcoming elections.
In a statement issued by its Protem National Coordinator, Barr. Obinna Nwachukwu, CP-PDP warned that President Tinubu’s ambitions for a second term could be thwarted, as Nigerians would not reward failure or the exacerbation of hardship with their votes in 2027. “Nigerians will never reward failure and the purveying of hardship with re-election, nor will they allow anyone to manipulate the outcome of the 2027 Presidential election,” the statement emphasized.
The PDP professionals also strongly stated that no amount of electoral maneuvering or intimidation by the APC would result in the loss of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) to the ruling party in the upcoming February 2026 FCT Area Council elections. The FCT, which has traditionally been a stronghold of the PDP, is not expected to be swayed by the APC’s tactics, the group asserted.
This statement follows President Tinubu’s admission on March 30, 2025, that he agreed to a request by FCT Minister Nyesom Wike to remove the FCT from the Treasury Single Account (TSA) for the purpose of influencing the upcoming elections. The president also reportedly threatened to sack Wike if the PDP were to lead the FCT election again, despite the region’s strong support for the PDP in the 2023 Presidential election. In that election, the PDP secured 42 councilors and three council chairmen, while the APC only managed three chairmen and 20 councilors.
The CP-PDP also expressed concern over reports of politically motivated actions, including harassment, land grabbing, and property demolitions allegedly aimed at intimidating perceived APC opponents in the FCT. There were also claims of controversial contract allocations designed to benefit APC supporters in the region. “With a deteriorating situation worsened by bad governance, it is clear that the APC has no chance in the FCT and the 2027 general elections despite its alleged rigging plots,” the statement declared.
The group further criticized President Tinubu’s handling of public finances, particularly his decision to expose public funds to opaque spending practices following the removal of the FCT from the TSA. “This offers a glimpse into the ill-conceived motives that drive the unaccountability, abuse of financial regulations, and brazen corruption being witnessed under the administration of the failed APC,” the PDP professionals argued.
Additionally, CP-PDP called for a public investigation into the accounts and activities of the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) under Wike, especially after the removal of the FCT from the TSA. The group also pointed out that the administration’s focus on the FCT and the 2027 elections suggested a lack of focus on governance, with the country facing worsening insecurity, economic hardship, and political uncertainty since President Tinubu took office on May 29, 2023.
“With all these concerns, it is clear that Nigerians will not be deceived into rewarding failure and hardship in the 2027 elections,” CP-PDP concluded.
