An ex-speaker of the Rivers State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Edison Ehie who resigned from his position on Sunday, has been appointed by Governor, Siminalaye Fubara, as the new Chief of Staff, in the state.
The Leadership reported that Ehie who is a loyalist of Fubara, was appointed as Chief of Staff to the Governor on Tuesday, January 2, 2024.
The ex-lawmaker took over the position from Hon. Chidi Amadi, who is a close ally of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike.
Premium Politics reported that the immediate-past speaker had on Sunday night, resigned his position as both Speaker and member representing Ahoada-East Constituency 2 in the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The decision has elicited questions about his next political move, after taking such a daring step.
However, all the recent political moves and calculations in Rivers State, have been linked to the crisis between Governor Fubara and his predecessor and political godfather, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike.
It would be recalled that the crisis between the two political figures has led to the moves by the 26 Peoples Democratic Party members of the state assembly, who cross-carpeted to the All Progressive Congress.
Meanwhile, the duo have been invited to a peace meeting with President Bola Tinubu, whose timely intervention doused the political tension in the state.
The resolution signed by parties during the peace meeting held with the President included the recognition of Rt. Hon. Martins Amaewhule as Speaker of the House.
However, there was no clause mandating Ehie to vacate his seat as a member of the House, which he did on Sunday night.
