Suspended Rivers State Governor, Sir Siminalayi Fubara, has reportedly arrived in Asaba, Delta State, to participate in a meeting of governors from the Peoples Democratic Party.
The PDP, Nigeria’s main opposition party, currently governs 12 of the country’s 36 states.
While the PDP recently issued a statement condemning the actions taken by the presidency, today’s meeting is expected to focus on key political developments, including the recent declaration of emergency rule in Rivers State.
On Tuesday, President Bola Tinubu suspended Fubara, his deputy, Ngozi Odu, and all members of the Rivers State House of Assembly. Additionally, Tinubu appointed retired Chief of Naval Staff, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ekwe Ibas, as the state’s sole administrator.
The National Assembly ratified the emergency rule on Thursday following deliberations in both the Senate and the House of Representatives.
