Rivers State Governor Siminalayi Fubara has announced plans to present the 2025 state budget to the Rivers State House of Assembly, led by Speaker Victor Oko-Jumbo, underscoring a commitment to ongoing collaboration aimed at advancing the welfare of Rivers State residents.
During the commissioning of two ultra-modern town halls and the launch of a scholarship and empowerment initiative in the Akiama and Aganya communities of Bonny Local Government Area on Saturday, Fubara highlighted the positive relationship between the executive and legislative branches.
He commended the Assembly for its prompt actions in screening nominees and passing executive bills, reflecting a productive partnership.
This was conveyed in a statement by Fubara’s Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, on Sunday in Port Harcourt.
Represented by Edison Ehie, the Chief of Staff at Government House, Fubara said, “The government and people of Rivers State heartily congratulate you, Mr. Speaker, for representing the Ibani Kingdom with distinction. While the legislative arm remains independent, we are committed to collaborating to secure prosperity for our people.”
He expressed appreciation for Speaker Oko-Jumbo’s ongoing support for the government, especially in matters such as the screening of caretaker committee chairmen and the swift passage of executive initiatives.
Fubara also noted that the Speaker’s focus on constituency projects showcased his dedication to local development, contrasting this commitment with that of 25 former Assembly members, whom Fubara referred to as “Abuja-based politicians.”
“Constituency projects show an elected representative’s dedication to their people,” Fubara said. “Meanwhile, have these 25 former members who deserted their posts undertaken any projects? Have they commissioned anything? They remain absent.”
Governor Fubara commended Speaker Oko-Jumbo for his contributions to Bonny, which include the establishment of town halls, financial support for 100 residents, and tertiary scholarships for 30 students.
In response, Speaker Oko-Jumbo expressed gratitude to the people of Bonny for supporting the 10th Assembly and reaffirmed his dedication to the governor’s agenda, despite opposition from critics he called “enemies of the state” and the 25 former lawmakers.
Oko-Jumbo also assured that Bonny Local Government Area would see future infrastructure developments. He stated, “We will work tirelessly to further the development of Bonny Kingdom. While many needs persist, I assure you that the 2025 budget, soon to be presented by His Excellency, will prioritize Bonny Local Government.”
