Enugu State Governor, Barr. Peter Mbah, has presented a proposed budget of ₦971.8 billion for the 2025 fiscal year, marking a notable increase from the ₦521.6 billion allocated for 2024.
The budget was unveiled at the Enugu State House of Assembly on Tuesday, with Mbah describing it as the “Budget of Exponential Growth and Inclusive Prosperity,” designed to ensure development reaches all parts of the state.
During his presentation, Governor Mbah expressed confidence in the state’s vision for economic growth, particularly through the expansion of Enugu’s Gross Domestic Product. He assured citizens that no one in the state would suffer poverty or be left behind in the development process.
“Our vision to grow our GDP is patently achievable. No citizen of this state needs to suffer poverty or penury. No segment of the state will be left out,” he emphasized.
The budget includes a breakdown of ₦837.94 billion for capital expenditure, ₦133.14 billion for recurrent expenditure, and ₦559.39 billion for recurrent capital expenditure.
The governor also projected an expected revenue of ₦692.17 billion, which will come from various sources including Value Added Tax with ₦74.92 billion, Internally Generated Revenue amounting to ₦144.8 billion, and grants from other sources.
Mbah highlighted education as a priority, with ₦320.61 billion allocated to the sector, which he described as the foundation of the state’s development. Additionally, over ₦213.12 billion has been earmarked for roads and infrastructure, aiming to improve connectivity and public amenities across Enugu State.
In a bid to enhance economic activity and connectivity, Governor Mbah also announced plans to launch an Enugu State Airline within weeks. “Enugu Airline will be launched in a few weeks so that our brothers coming for Christmas will fly with our own airline,” Mbah said, noting that this initiative would make travel more convenient for residents and visitors, especially during the festive season.
