The chairman of the Lagos State Parks Management Committee, Musiliu Akinsanya, commonly known as MC Oluomo, has renounced his warning against Igbo people of Lagos.
He cautioned Igbos who would not support the APC to remain away from polling units while speaking to supporters of the All Progressives Congress Party during a meeting on Thursday.
“We have begged them. If they don’t want to vote for us, it is not a fight. Tell them, Mama Chukwudi, if you don’t want to vote for us, sit down at home. Sit down at home,” MC Oluomo had previously warned.
There has been a widespread uproar over the statement, and many people demanded his arrest.
Former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar has condemned President Muhammadu Buhari’s and President-Elect Asiwaju Bola Tinubu’s silence.
The Cybercrimes Unit of the Command was also directed by the Lagos State Commissioner of Police, CP Idowu Owohunwa, to launch an immediate and thorough investigation into the event.
As soon as the CP finished speaking on television, MC Oluomo produced a video in which he called for peace.
“Good after all my brothers and sisters. My name is Alhaji Musilu Ayinde Akinsanya, at the meeting I went to yesterday, I was discussing with my sister, Iya Chukwudi. I was referring to her that Iya Chukwudi, if you are not voting for me, sit down at home and the next thing I saw was the video on social media.
“People started to mention my name; please I am always for peace; when you take a look at Lagos State there is peace; why will I say don’t go out to vote, if they don’t come out to vote, how will we get votes for APC to win? APC is my party; count me out of the talk going around, the person I was referring to in the video was in the meeting with me, that was why I quickly went to meet her that they said you should not go out and Iya Chukwudi is here with me.”
MC Oluomo said, “I was merely kidding; I’m not threatening any Igbo people. Ask my Igbo neighbors in Oshodi; go there and look around; they will confirm that I am not endangering anyone. God protect us from those who don’t truly care about us.”
A longer version of the video that went viral on Thursday showed him stressing that Yorubas should arrive at the polling places well in advance.
Additionally, he claimed that if an Igbo man were given the power to run Lagos, ritual killings would become widespread. He also made additional negative remarks.
