The Ondo State Governor, Rotimi Akeredolu has knocked the Federal Government for playing double standards on gun license permission for regional security outfits.
In a statement on Thursday, Akeredolu expressed displeasure over the decision to allow the northern security network to bear Arms while making it illegal for the western counterpart, Amotekun Corps.
The Governor who is also the Chairman of the South West governors forum stated that “denying Amotekun the urgently needed rights, to legitimately bear arms is a repudiation of the basis of true federalism which we have been clamouring for”.
According to him, “that Katsina was able to arm its State security force, with the display of AK-47 means we are pursuing one country, two systems solution to the national questions”.
He further explained that the development raises a question to the democratic arrangement to have a federal state and devolved internal security mechanics.
“Denying Amotekun the right to bear arms exposes the South West to life-threatening destruction and organized crime. It is also a deliberate destruction of our agricultural sector. It is an existential threat ” he added.
