Former Niger Delta militant leader, Asari Dokubo, has revealed how President Bola Tinubu rescued him from persecution during former President Olusegun Obasanjo’s administration.
Dokubo disclosed that Tinubu’s timely intervention saved him from Obasanjo’s attempt to “bury him alive.”
Dokubo made this disclosure on Arise TV’s Morning Show on Tuesday.
He expressed deep gratitude for Tinubu’s support, citing it as a defining moment in their relationship.
This revelation offers insight into the complex dynamics of Nigerian politics and the personal connections that shape its leaders’ actions. Dokubo’s testimony highlights Tinubu’s compassionate side, showcasing his willingness to help those in dire need.
The former militant leader’s account also underscores the significance of loyalty and gratitude in Nigerian politics.
“I supported Mr. President because I knew him before he became senator, president, and, God willing, I will also know him when he ceases to be president. But this is not about me or Tinubu; it’s about my people.
“When I’m speaking about my people, take me out of the way; I’m an individual. My relationship with Tinubu was very robust, and at all times, the benefit I derived from that relationship was one-way traffic, which was from Tinubu alone.
“His coming out for the presidency was the only time I was able to pay him back, and I did. If he comes out tomorrow, I will still do it because, at the time, Obasanjo tried to bury me alive (sic), but he stood by me. I won’t forget in a hurry.”
