The PDP candidate for governor of Lagos State, Dr. Abdul-Azeez Adediran also known as Jandor, has said that if elected in 2023, he will keep the state’s 37 undeveloped Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs).
To further bring the government closer to Lagos citizens, Adediran told the News Agency of Nigeria in Lagos that he would even expand the number.
He asserted that it would not be wise to cancel the LCDAs.
He claims that the 37 LCDAs need to be regularized.
The told NAN, “The party (APC) has the presidency, the majority in the National Assembly and the majority in the state assembly.”
He said that the LCDAs established by the Chief Bola Tinubu administration may be regularized eight years after their inception.
If elected governor, the governorship candidate promised to work hard to ensure the regularization of the local councils.
The LCDAs would be utilized, according to Adediran, to spread the benefits of democracy to the populace.
“We need them (LCDAs) to bring government closer to the people.
“We don’t have any problem with them (LCDAs). If possible, we will create more.”
He added that his government would not only provide the council the freedom to carry out their responsibilities, but would also keep an eye on them so that the populace could benefit from the democratic dividends that LCDAs were supposed to deliver at the local level.
