Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has responded to claims of his Igbo paternity, saying it “just makes me laugh.”
He made this comment while receiving the leadership of Ndigbo Amaka Progressive Market Association at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library in Abeokuta, Ogun State.
Obasanjo emphasized the importance of unity in Nigeria, stating, “we own this country together.”
He expressed his support for the establishment of the Owerri Central Market, which has been contemplated since the creation of Imo state. He acknowledged the governor’s interest in the project and expressed confidence in its success.
Obasanjo also emphasized his commitment to unity, saying, “Having ensured that the Yorubas, Igbos, and Hausas all came together to fight the war of unity in Nigeria, and not to fight Igbos to go, but to come. So if anybody says to me, that somebody should leave any place, he will be the one to leave.”
The spokesperson for the market association, Chief Emeka Dallas Emmanuel, sought Obasanjo’s assistance in actualizing the international market, which will be a hub for innovation and entrepreneurship. He also requested help in obtaining loans for members to purchase shops and spaces at the market.
