The United States has urged an end to the current military exchanges between Israel and Iran, following Israel’s latest strike on Iranian military targets.
According to a senior U.S. administration official, while the U.S. did not participate in the strikes, it collaborated with Israeli officials to ensure a limited-risk operation that would avoid civilian casualties.
Late Friday, the official noted that the strikes were “extensive,” “precise,” and focused solely on military sites across Iran. “The effect was a proportionate self-defense response,” the official stated. “The effect is to deter future attacks and to degrade Iran’s abilities to launch future attacks.”
The U.S. considers the recent strike as a concluding response to a cycle of direct exchanges between Israel and Iran.
“This should be the end of the direct military exchange between Israel and Iran,” the official added. “We had a direct exchange in April, and that was closed off; now we’ve had this direct exchange again.”
According to Reuters, the U.S. official emphasized that both nations should now work to prevent further escalations, stressing that this response should conclude the current tensions.
