Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has set up committees to investigate two government-owned higher institutions over alleged financial misconduct.
The institutions are Jigawa State Polytechnic Dutse and Jigawa State College of Education and Legal Studies Ringim.
Daily Post reported that the probe panel for Jigawa Polytechnic Dutse has Prof. Haruna Abdullahi Birniwa, a former Commissioner for Education, as Chairman and Nura Muhammad Ubayi, Director of Establishment, Head of Service, as Secretary.
While the committee charged with investigating the College of Education and Legal Studies Ringim has Prof. Dalha Waziri as Chairman and Harisu Garba as Secretary.
Both committees are tasked with reviewing the academic programs of the institutions to ensure conformity to standard practices as well as ascertaining the veracity or otherwise of the various allegations of irregularities against the management of each institution.
It was gathered that the decision to investigate the institutions followed a petition over alleged mismanagement of Education Trust Fund funds and other irregularities.
The committees have reportedly commenced work with the suspension of the college provosts, registrars, and bursars.
The governor had earlier set up a committee to investigate the management of the College of Education Gumel, over a similar allegation, after which the principal officers of the college were suspended.
