Associate Professor Abdurraman Salim of the Federal University Dutse in Jigawa State has left lecturing to run for the chairmanship position of the Gwaram Local Government Council in the October 6, 2024, election.
The All Progressive Congress chose him as their flagbearer due to his selfless services to the local government and state.
The Gwaram Community Assembly, a non-governmental organization, has commended the APC for selecting Professor Salim, citing his proven track record of service to the community and dedication to education, public welfare, and development, according to Nigerian Tribune.
The group sees this as a new paradigm shift in Jigawa politics, transitioning to professionalism in managing public affairs.
They are optimistic that Professor Salim’s leadership will bring progress and prosperity to Gwaram LGA if elected.
Professor Salim, an animal science expert, has held various offices, including Dean of the School of Pure and Applied Sciences and Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities FUD Chapter.
The group also praised the state governor, Malam Umar Namadi, for promoting accountability, transparency, and professionalism in public service.
According to the statement, “the Gwaram Community Assembly and all well-meaning and development-orientated individuals of Gwaram Local Government are happy with the development, which symbolises a new paradigm shift in Jigawa politics.”
The group maintained that “the choice of a professor, PhD holders, and other professionals as candidates for the October local government election opened a new page in the history of Jigawa state politics, a transition to professionalism in managing public affairs after decades of maladministration from the understandable people approach.”
Hamza added that “Professor Salim, as a distinguished scholar and an exemplary leader with a proven track record of service to the community and his dedication to the advancement of education, public welfare, and development in his locality, the LGA, and the state at large, we are optimistic that, if elected, he will provide an example of leadership that will lead Gwaram LGA progress and prosperity,” the statement declared.
