Former President Goodluck Jonathan is expected to inaugurate the 1.15km Afi-Uko Ntighe bridge project on Monday, January 16, 2023, which will be the longest bridge in Akwa Ibom.
According to reports, the bridge built by Governor Udom Emmanuel in Akwa Ibo State’s Mbo Local Government Area is the fourth-longest in Nigeria.
The Special Assistant to Governor Emmanuel on Research and Documentation, Essien Ndueso, gave newsmen a tour of the bridge on Friday and explained that it was a part of a 19-kilometer road that had been built from Mbo LGA to Etebi in Esit Eket LGA.
Essien added that the bridge was one of more than 40 that Emmanuel built as part of his administration’s Completion Agenda, connecting the state’s 31 local government units.
He said that the Afi-Uko Ntighe bridge was started by the previous administration of governor Godswill Akpabio but was abandoned in 2014.
“Now, this project is completed. Former president Goodluck Jonathan will commission this bridge on Monday 16 January 2023”.
He added that the bridge would have both social and economic impacts on the population of the area because it would transport their goods, namely seafood, to different sections of the state.
