The ruling All Progressives Congress has expressed its commitment to further deepening democracy and good governance in Nigeria.
The party disclosed this in its democracy day message to the nation through its Twitter handle on Monday.
Nigeria returned to civil rule in 1999, with the inception of former President Olusegun Obasanjo as the President from 1999 to 2007.
However, the country celebrated its 24th democracy day on Monday, June 12, 2023, to mark 24 years of interrupted democratic rule in the country.
Democracy Day, which used to be celebrated every May 29, was shifted to June 12, by the immediate former president Muhammadu Buhari, to honour the late MKO Abiola, who laid down his life for the democracy the country enjoys today.
However, APC in its democracy day message, said its commitment to deepening democracy and good governance in the country, is unwavering.
“Our great Party felicitates with Nigerians on the historic occasion of the 2023 Democracy Day, which marks 24 years of continuous democratic governance in the country. Our commitment to deepening democracy and good governance is unwavering,” the party wrote.
