The Social Democratic Party in Kaduna State has claimed that it has no record of the membership of Malam Nasir El-Rufai.
This was revealed by Alhaji Idris Inuwa, the Assistant National Secretary, NorthWest of SDP, during a press conference in Kaduna on Friday.
Inuwa also rejected the reported dissolution of the State Working Committee of the SDP, accusing certain individuals of trying to hijack the party. He emphasized that the Kaduna State Executive Committee was the legitimate result of a duly conducted state congress, reflecting the will of the party members and in strict adherence to the party’s constitutional provisions.
“The Kaduna State Executive Committee is the legitimate outcome of a duly conducted state congress, reflecting the will of the party members and adhering strictly to the party’s constitutional provisions,” Inuwa said. “This body holds a four-year mandate that remains valid, binding, and legally recognized throughout its tenure.”
Inuwa argued that any attempt to dissolve the current leadership structure arbitrarily violated the party’s constitution and undermined the principles of due process, fairness, and internal democracy. He further explained, “The SDP constitution states very clearly the process and procedure to follow in dissolving a State Exco, which includes initiating an investigation, setting up a committee, providing a fair hearing in a transparent manner before a decision is taken.”
He continued, “None of this was done—only the resort to the illegal unilateral letter of dissolution. Such an action is therefore tantamount to an unlawful interference in the party’s governance and an affront to the collective decision of its members.”
Inuwa also addressed the purported establishment of a caretaker committee under a single individual, declaring it lacked legal standing and was therefore null and void. “Consequently, the purported establishment of a caretaker committee under a single individual lacks any legal basis, rendering it null, void and of no effect whatsoever,” he stated.
While acknowledging the growing interest of individuals and groups in joining the SDP, Inuwa stressed that the party’s membership guidelines and constitutional provisions must be followed. He reassured that the State Exco remained open to all prospective members who adhered to these established procedures.
