The Kano State Public Complaints and Anti-Corruption Commission has arrested three officials from Nassarawa Local Government Area along with Mustapha Maifada, Senior Special Assistant to Governor Abba Yusuf, over allegations of diverting N105 million.
The arrested officials include the Director of Personnel Management, Treasurer, and Cashier from the local government. PCACC Chairman, Muhuyi Rimin-Gado, confirmed the arrests on Tuesday, stating that the officials are currently in their custody.
Sources revealed that the local government officials were initially instructed to issue a payment of N105,000 for a program but allegedly issued a cheque for N105 million to Maifada in November 2024 instead.
The anti-corruption agency began its investigation into the alleged misappropriation after receiving intelligence from a financial monitoring system. During the investigation, the detained officials claimed the payment was a mistake, but the commission, citing the time lapse since November 2024 and other available evidence, rejected their explanation.
Further investigations have indicated that the governor’s aide may have used the diverted funds to acquire properties. The PCACC has stated that the probe is still ongoing, with more details expected to emerge as the investigation continues.
