Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State announced on Friday that he is prepared to remove members of his cabinet who are underperforming in their roles.
This statement follows his recent receipt of a performance review report on cabinet members, prepared by a committee assessing their contributions to the administration.
Speaking on the matter during a live radio interview at the Government House on Wednesday, the governor hinted that a cabinet reshuffle is imminent, and the public can expect further announcements soon.
He mentioned that his decision will be informed by both the committee’s report and his personal insights from working closely with his cabinet members over the past year and a half.
Governor Yusuf clarified that none of the current commissioners lobbied for their positions. Their appointments, he emphasized, were based on “experience, credibility, and consultation.”
He expects his commissioners to show loyalty to him, the New Nigeria People’s Party, and the Kwankwasiyya Movement. “What I expected from the commissioners is obedience to my humble self, to the NNPP, and to the Kwankwasiyya Movement,” Yusuf stated. He added that he values “dedication to duty and good initiatives for the development of the state.”
On the topic of poverty alleviation, Governor Yusuf highlighted his administration’s ongoing distribution of foodstuffs in both urban and rural areas as a way to mitigate the hardship caused by the recent removal of petroleum subsidies. He assured residents that this support would continue to help those in need across Kano State.
In addition, the governor discussed efforts to boost agriculture through the Kano State Agricultural Supply Company, which provides fertilizer to farmers. He explained that the company is being upgraded to increase its production capacity, which should help support food production across the state.
Yusuf also underscored his commitment to women and youth empowerment. He shared that each month, his administration provides 52,000 women and youths across Kano State with N50,000 each to help them establish small businesses and achieve self-reliance.
This initiative, he noted, is a key part of his administration’s strategy to foster economic independence among the state’s residents.
