Former Governor of Kano State, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has expressed confidence that justices of the Supreme Court will serve justice and affirm the victory of Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf in his election dispute with Nasiru Gawuna of the All Progressive Congress.
Kwankwaso made the remarks during a prayer session for the victory of Mr Yusuf at the apex court, in his residence at Miller Road on Monday.
He said indications have shown that the apex court justices would not be swayed by outside influences and interference in their determination of the Kano governorship election dispute.
The former governor added that the political crisis that has arisen as a result of the court dispute concerning the election would not deter them from prayers for the right thing to be done.
He said, “Those at the helm of affairs in the country must understand that without justice, there can never be progress or development. Injustice only breeds chaos and conflict which curtails development.”
Kwankwaso also observed that the massive crowd of people that turned out to welcome Yusuf back to Kano on Sunday was a clear indication that the people voted for him, believe in him and are ready to defend his mandate.
He condemned what he described as “the dramas of the election petition tribunal and the appeal court”, which he was an embarrassment and an attempt to truncate democracy in the country.
“All well-meaning Nigerians must rise to fight the dark anti-democratic forces that want to uproot democracy in the country,” he said.
Kwankwaso also praised the efforts of the legal team of Mr Yusuf’s party, the New Nigeria Peoples Party for “doing a wonderful job”.
He prayed that the Supreme Court justices would be “allowed to dispense justice without using the federal might and other apparatus to intimidate them.”
