The Judicial Commission of Inquiry on Political Violence and Missing Persons, established by the Kano State Government, will convene for its inaugural sitting on Monday, May 6, 2024. The commission was established to investigate instances of political violence and missing persons that occurred during the administration of former Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje (2015–2023).
According to a statement released by the Commission’s Secretary, Alhaji Mahmoud Bello Bari, the session will be held at Kano High Court, No. 13, Miller road, commencing at 10 a.m.
In April 2024, Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf inaugurated the Commission of Inquiry with the mandate to investigate cases of political violence and missing persons from 2015 to 2023.
Justice Zuwaira Yusuf of the Kano High Court, along with other appointees, was tasked with chairing and serving as members of the commission.
During the inaugural speech, Governor Yusuf reiterated his administration’s commitment to holding anyone accountable for alleged offenses. He urged the Commission members to diligently serve the people of the state by ensuring that justice prevails.
Governor Yusuf emphasized that the establishment of the commission was not intended to witch-hunt anyone but was a response to the mandate given to him by the people of Kano State.
