Veteran Nollywood actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo has warned the public to avoid the Julius Abure-led National Working Committee of the Labour Party, describing them as “a bunch of ill-fated liars” who will scam people of their hard-earned money.
Okonkwo’s statement comes after the NWC claimed that the Independent National Electoral Commission did not reject their last convention. However, Okonkwo disputed this, saying:
“My attention has been drawn to the updated lies of the rejected purported Abure-led NWC of Labour Party… A look at the letter will reveal that the writer neglected, failed, and refused to include the dates they purported to notify INEC of the changes in the venue… INEC didn’t attend because they were not legally notified to attend, not that they opted not to attend.”
Okonkwo also highlighted other irregularities in the convention, including the lack of ward, local, and state congresses, and the exclusion of Labour Party members from voting for their preferred candidates. He concluded:
“INEC was right in rejecting the illegal convention, and they remain perpetually rejected… I wish to advise everyone to stay clear of these bunch of ill-fated liars as they will be scammed of their hard-earned money if they follow them.”
This is not the first time Okonkwo has spoken out against the Abure-led NWC. He had previously distanced himself from the committee, citing corruption and incompetence. Okonkwo expressed strong condemnation of the national convention organized by Abure, saying it was “rife with criminality and corruption”.
