President Bola Tinubu has chosen not to deliver a national broadcast on Wednesday to mark his first anniversary as the leader of Nigeria. Instead, he will address a joint session of the National Assembly.
This event is part of a broader program celebrating 25 years of Nigeria’s democratic journey since the end of military rule in 1999.
The Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Mr. Bayo Onanuga, issued a statement detailing this change in plans. According to Onanuga, President Tinubu’s speech will focus on the accomplishments of his administration and the progress of Nigeria’s democracy over the past quarter-century.
The statement also mentioned that several notable figures are scheduled to speak at the event. These include “Former Senate President, Senator David Mark, former speaker of the House of Representatives and now President Tinubu’s Chief of Staff, Rt. Hon. Femi Gbajabiamila.” Additionally, “the former military ruler, General Abdulsalami Abubakar, who handed over power to civilian administration in 1999,” will also address the parliament.
Following the speeches, President Tinubu will officially open the National Assembly Library and Resource Center, which will be renamed the Bola Ahmed Tinubu Building.
