In an effort to form a mega party, the African Democratic Congress will host chairmen of various opposition parties who are to convene in Kaduna State on Thursday for a meeting.
The meeting will be attended by leaders from Accord Party, Peoples Redemption Party, KOWA Party, Social Democratic Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, New Nigeria Peoples Party, and the Labour Party.
Notably, the Peoples Democratic Party, a former ruling party, has been excluded from the summit.
ADC National Chairman, Dr. Ralphs Okey Nwosu, announced the meeting in a statement, revealing that the summit, dubbed “Kaduna 2024,” will focus on the theme “Solid Political Party Structure Critical to the Sustainability of the Democratic Process.”
The event will take place at Arewa House, with Alhaji Muhammad Lawal Nalado of the Accord Party serving as chairman, and Alhaji (Barr) Falalu Bello of the Peoples Redemption Party delivering the keynote address.
A sub-theme, “Concept of the Political Party as Molue, Tuke-Tuke, Bolikaja, or SPV inimical to Political Leadership,” will be addressed by KOWA Party National Chairman, Hon. Mark Adebayo.
The summit’s chief guest of honor is the current IPAC National Chairman, Alhaji Yussuf M Dantalle, while special guests of honor include SDP National Chairman Malam Shehu Gabam, APGA National Chairman Sly Ezeokenwa, NNPP National Chairman Dr. Ajuji Ahmed, and Labour Party National Chairman Barr Julius Abure.
According to Dr. Ralphs Okey Nwosu, the summit is part of ADC’s commitment to sustaining Nigeria’s democracy, emphasizing that strong political parties are essential for robust democratic and political leadership, according to The Will.
He said, the much talked about strong institutional requisites for democratic and political leadership, begins with strong political parties.
“The political party is the foundation and sets the tone for the leadership to expect.”
He said ADC is drawing from experienced party leaders to give direction and begin afresh to set the template.
“We believe all of us have a role to play to make sure that this democracy survives and ADC as one of the leading political parties in the country, is, as in our DNA, making it an inclusive affair.”
“We need a purposeful leadership in the country and ADC has been in the forefront of transitioning and envisioning a clear pathway for the nation.
“Despite the vagaries in our polity, ADC remains the learning organisation and political party that has continued to champion collaboration, coalition building and alliances to birth a new Nigeria”, Nwosu stated.
