Representatives from the Organised Labour walked out of the Tripartite Committee meeting on Minimum Wage on Tuesday, despite the Federal Government’s decision to increase its offer to N60,000.
This meeting, which took place in Abuja, was aimed at resolving the ongoing dispute over the national minimum wage.
According to Vanguard, a source familiar with the proceedings revealed that the federal government had raised its offer by N3,000, bringing the proposed minimum wage to N60,000. However, this increment was not enough to meet the demands of the Organised Labour.
The source stated, “We walked out again. Just now. They (federal government) added 3k. We reduced 3k.”
At the time of the walkout, the Federal Government’s offer stood at N60,000, whereas the Organised Labour had adjusted its demand to N494,000. This significant gap between the proposed figures highlights the ongoing tension and the challenges faced in reaching a consensus on the minimum wage issue.
