A group, the Oodua Youth Parliament, has urged the Governor of Central Bank, Godwin Emefiele and the Group Managing Director, Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Mr. Mele Kyari to correct the anomaly currency swap and fuel scarcity within next 72 hours.
The group had threatened to mobilise a nationwide protest over the scarcity of petrol and new naira notes across the country if failed to do the needful at the expiration of 72 hours ultimatum.
The Speaker of the Group, Abdulmajeed O Oyeniyi, in a statement, decried hardship experienced by Nigerians due to what he described as “deliberate sabotage” by Emefiele and Kyari to achieve an ulterior motive of some influential individuals in the government that insist to suffer their helpless Nigerians.
According to the Sun, Oyeniyi said it is a source of concern that officers appointed to discharge the most important functions that have serious socioeconomic effects on the lives of Nigerians could turn around to be sources of a devastating nightmare.
“Nigerians are going through a lot, ranging from economic devastation as a result of the deliberate action of heads of CBN and NNPCL who are bent on triggering nationwide disaffection and public apathy to satisfy the whims of some selfish individual in the corridor of power.
“It is sad and disheartening seeing the pains and anguish caused by Nigerians who should have been preparing for a general election but are occupied with queuing up for the whole day while spending the night at filling stations or cash dispensing machines.
“We are sounding a note of warning to them that their time is up for either they make these most important products available or face an effective protest, capable of consuming them,” he warned.
He, however, praised the Osun State Commissioner of Police, Patrick Kehinde for professionally conduct in addressing the brewing anger, as a result of the scarcity of naira and fuel which he said it would have created a fracas and undermine the peace in the state.
