Nasarawa State Governor, Abdullahi Sule, has assured the people of his state that his administration will continue to provide for their needs amid the economic challenges facing the country.
He said the state government will distribute about 20,000 bags of rice and cash to vulnerable households to cushion the effects of the hardship.
He made this known at the inauguration of a new public primary school built by the Keffi Local Government Chairman, Hon Mohammed Baba Shehu, in Gidan Zakara.
He also said his administration will give cash to those who are not employed by the government to enable them to engage in productive activities.
He said his administration has already given cash palliative to civil servants and pensioners, and now wants to focus on those who are not on the government payroll.
“There are a lot of people that are finding it difficult to feed. The economic hardship are given all the leaders, starting from Mr President sleepless nights. The issue of insecurity, inflation in the country has brought about untold hardship to the people.
“Just yesterday I was at the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security, and we discussed on the issue of food security through boosting agricultural production in Nasarawa State.
“But to start something in Nasarawa before it gets out of hand, we have to start distributing another palliative of our own before even that of the Federal Government comes,” he stated.
He commended Hon Baba Shehu for building a primary school to honour the memory of his late son, Hassan A A Sule, who he said was a distinguished and impactful person.
He said his administration will provide qualified teachers for the Hassan A A Sule Primary School, adding that he has approved the recruitment of 3000 qualified primary school teachers, with 700 more supported by the local governments.
He also revealed that Keffi is among the towns being considered for the Federal Government’s housing scheme under the Renewed Hope Housing Estate launched by President Ahmed Bola Tinubu in Abuja.
“It’s a wonderful thing that you have identified education as a way to remember Hassan. We sincerely appreciate that. I also want to thank you for supporting the government in the development of education and other things,” Governor Sule told Hon Baba Shehu.
Hon Baba Shehu, in his speech, said he built the school to fulfil his campaign promise of bringing basic education closer to the people.
He thanked Governor Sule for modernizing Keffi through various projects such as the Keffi neighbourhood market, the Muhammadu Chindo Yamusa Square, the ultra-modern museum, the Antau bridge, the bridge near Audu Namalama’s House, the dualization of roads within the Keffi metropolis, the Saura bridge, the rural road from Jigwada through Kaibo Fulani and Kaibo Mada communities, the Ibrahim Barde Primary School, Angwan Waje in Keffi, and the rehabilitation and provision of teaching aids and instructional materials for public schools.
