The House of Representatives member for Akwanga, Nassarawa-Eggon, and Wamba federal constituency in Nasarawa State, Jeremiah Umaru, has expressed concern over the increasing rate of insecurity in the area.
He called for urgent action from stakeholders and residents to tackle the menace during a peace and security summit he organized in Akwanga Local Government.
Umaru said, “Security is not just the responsibility of the government and the security agencies alone, but a collective responsibility, that was why I came up with the initiative to bring my constituents together.”
He added, “The summit is part of my contributions to create a platform where people of diverse culture, religion as well as political interest in the area can come together to discuss as brothers and sisters irrespective of their differences.”
Umaru promised to continue initiating programs and sponsoring quality bills and motions to address the challenges confronting his constituents.
Regarding recent flooding issues in the state, Umaru urged his constituents to report early signs of flooding and other emergencies to the appropriate authorities for prompt action.
The North-Central Director of the National Emergency Management Agency, Bashir Idris-Garna, emphasized the importance of communication in promoting peace and unity. He urged residents to adopt a non-violent approach towards addressing conflict and respect each other’s beliefs and interests.
Samson Gamu-Yare, Chun Mada and Chairman, Traditional Council of Akwanga LG, appreciated the lawmaker’s initiative and assured that traditional rulers would continue to play their roles in ensuring peace in the state.
