The ruling party, All Progressives Congress has said that it will resist the plot by the opposition parties, to seize control of the House of Representatives in the 10th National Assembly.
Reports had it that the opposition members-elect unanimously formed a group called ‘Greater Majority’, and met on Tuesday to collaborate, to influence the election of the Green Chamber’s next leaders.
However, the opposition members-elect convened a meeting in Abuja to map out strategies, by using their numerical advantage as leverage in their negotiations with the APC speakership aspirants.
The strategic meeting was attended by members-elect from different political parties, including the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party, New Nigeria Peoples Party, All Progressives Grand Alliance, Social Democratic Party, African Democratic Congress, and the Young Progressives Party.
Reacting to the development, the APC Director of Media and Publicity, Bala Ibrahim, declared that the ruling party would never allow the opposition parties to take control of the national assembly.
However, he confirmed that the party’s leadership was working towards a smooth transition between the 9th and 10th Assembly and also warned against the spread of false information, designed to disrupt the process.
“We are not going to witness that. All hands are on deck to ensure there is a smooth transition between the 9th and 10th Assembly. As the leading party, nothing will be out of control.
“Some people are peddling false information and fake news all over the place to overheat the arrangement. But I assure you that everything is (being) done in such a way that nothing untoward is likely going to happen,” he said.
