Members of the Parliamentary Staff Association of Nigeria, affiliated with the Nigeria Labour Congress, have blockaded the entrances and exits of the National Assembly.
This move is part of a larger nationwide strike initiated by organized labor, including the NLC and the Trade Union Congress, in response to the Federal Government’s failure to reach a compromise on a new minimum wage.
Early this morning, some workers arrived at the National Assembly to monitor compliance with the strike and found the gates blocked with two coastal buses, effectively sealing off entry and exit points.
Similarly, the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport in Abuja has been affected, with striking workers blocking access and preventing intending passengers from traveling by air.
This strike action, resulting from the stalemate in minimum wage negotiations, has had significant repercussions, including the shutdown of the national grid.
